Life Skills Training

The youth of Cambodia are increasingly involved in violence, gangs use of harmful substances, corruption, prostitution, gambling and other damaging behaviors. Therefore, their is a need to develop the emotional, moral and spiritual areas of Cambodian youth both for those still in school and those who have left early.

Sports, especially soccer is loved all over the world. The game gathers both young and old to play and watch. Cambodia is no different. People from all levels of society try to find time for a game; a large place at the side of the road, an empty parking lot or a regular field often hosts a game of soccer.

Youth usually have no opportunity to play on a team in organized leagues, play on a good field or be trained by educated motivated coaches. Importantly, while being part of a (recreational) soccer team, youth can learn about team work, leadership, fair competition, moral values, and life skills that help them grow up in a challenging world.

SALT Academy gives youth from all levels of society a chance to enjoy playing sports, while learning life changing behavior.  At the same time will train coaches and players, potentially raising the standard and image of soccer in Cambodia.

Education sessions at weekly game with the player are conducted by our referee's before every game.

The lessons are trying to target the main areas of:

1. The youth learns about important elements of being part of a team such as Commitment, Respect, Honesty, Fair Play and more.

2. To reduce malnutrition and improve cognitive abilities, the players learn about Hydration, Nutrition and participate in a de-worming program.

3. To develop drug awareness and prevention education in and through youth. The youth will learn how to respect themselves and their bodies by learning how the decisions they make affect their lives. Also the players will learn about peer pressure and making good choices. And last a change in behavior and attitudes will be noticed among the youth
