Cambodia is a country which continues to suffer from the effects of the Regime of the Khmer Rouge 28 years ago, with most living in poverty due to effects of an unstable government. Even though signs of recovery can be seen, overall the rich continue to prosper. The people of Cambodia live under a belief of limited hope for a better life, avoiding any thought of a better future, but living for the materialistic things of today. This belief in thinking looks to have dire consequences for the future of the nation, with children and youth getting very little attention and leading to further violence, corruption, human slavery, compulsive gambling as well as other negative behaviour patterns amongst Cambodian youth.

The SALT Academy is a ministry providing holistic development to Cambodian youth, which looks to combat the ill affects of behaviour trends and lack of hope through Football. Football is a well known sport that is played around the world and continues to grow in popularity. Young and old are crazy about it - even in Cambodia. Human Beings of every social class play soccer, with most playing pickup games in streets, alleys or dirt fields. Very few ever get an opportunity to play an organized game of soccer with refs, coaches and uniforms alike. SALT looks to provide wayward youth the opportunity to play on a well coached team, within a league that features organized games and actual fields. Organized sports of any kind hardly exist within Cambodia, especially for those under the age of 16; even the country's international team is bad in comparison.

Within the SALT ministry children between 8 and 14 will learn and develop technical and coordinative skills, in conjunction with life lessons and hope. SALT will provide these activities to youth - regardless of their social class. SALT will work to offset negative behaviour patters through lessons on character importance and hope of a better future.

We believe more than technical and tactical lessons can be taught within a sports team environment, like lessons of life, fair play or working together for a common goal to name just a few. SALT Youth will learn moral values and other character traits to help them within their personal growth. SALT also will provide training to league coaches and players to improve the standard and the image of football in Cambodia.
